The community of audiobook listeners has increased massively of the past few years. To not convert your book into audio format could mean that you are missing out on an entire market of busy, on the go people, visually impaired people, people who are stuck in traffic.. or people just walking the dog!
Contact me, Claire Rooney, I can talk you through the process of how to create an audiobook. It isn't difficult, but, like every industry, it is full of acronyms, legal jargon, contracts etc. enough to put anyone off! So let me help you. The main thing you have to check is your copyright. Who owns it? You? A publishing house? so check your contract with the third party, if you have one.
There are many ways of paying for your book to be produced in audiobook format. With a good track record of sales, you can possibly agree a 50/50 royalty split with the narrator. which means it doesn't actually cost you a penny in production costs.
If you don't want to share your hard earned spoils, you can always pay the narrator a fixed rate for the total finished number of hours. This is called a PFH rate.
Ands in some cases you can do both. Contact me, Claire Rooney, to find out more..
This is a relatively easy answer.. 9,000 words takes about 1 hour of finished production of an audiobook...
The not so easy thing is that 1 hour of finished production can take 4-6 hours of hard work by the narrator/producer.. to get it ready and perfect to be listed on Audible etc.
I use Amazon's interface between the author and/or right's holder. We get contracts, timescales and the assurance that a legally binding contract is in place for both of us. Your audiobook will be available for sale on Audible.
